Shma: She Who Listens
Shma - listen, receive
what has been broken,
longs to return, open
the dark cramped places, let
walls crumble, let pain lift,
all the tired, overused burdens.
Shshshsh - ma
the necessary quiet, letting
go of sound and self, cleansing
into speech.
Sh Ma Ma - She who brings
us through Mitzrayim, the narrow
straits, who holds us to Her breast, knows
us as seed and branch.
Sh shemesh - sun, light, arranging
sky and cloud, the indrawing
indwelling nectar,
what calls us awake.
Shma - She who sits
us on Her great hip, who we bring
stones all the storied
days of our lives, who hears
my voice, when I remember
to speak.
