Elul Meditations: Singing

He sang the prayers

and the prayers

sang him and he

taught: Shabbat is song 

and the song is Shabbat, 

just as this cool wind rising

returns lake to vapor 

vapor to lake,

voice to wings

wings to voice

of warbler, sparrow, 

butterfly heron, 

grace singing 

singing that is grace, 

beauty to breath 

breath to beauty.
